Scripture Reading
Luke 11:13
13 If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”
Devotional
When you encounter a problem or obstacle it’s easy to assume you know best and try to go off and fix it based on your knowledge. Sometimes it may work and it further builds your belief that you may in fact know best. But how many times when you encounter a serious issue do you consult God first before you try doing things your own way? How about when you’re working toward a goal. Do you consult God on it and ask for his help and blessing in reaching it or do you try to pave your own path?
Luke 11:13 is plainly telling us that although we are flawed and in sin, we still understand what a good gift for our children looks like and would not deprive them of something that’s good for them. So, if even an imperfect, flawed, sinful person like you and I can figure out how to give good gifts, imagine what kind of gifts God gives. Friends, God doesn’t just give amazing gifts, he gives perfect gifts and all we need to do is ask. The crazy thing is God has all these perfect plans and gifts for you and I in store, yet we so often insist on going through great lengths to make our own inferior plans. Today, I want to challenge you to do something. If you have a goal in mind, need guidance, or are facing an obstacle, ask God for his wisdom and blessing over your path and watch what he does. Pray consistently and faithfully and God will answer. It may not be the answer you anticipate, but you can trust that it is the best and absolutely perfect answer. If this devotional spoke to you, let’s pray together.
Prayer
Father God, thank you for being a God that freely gives absolutely perfect gifts as long as we ask. I know I haven’t always been good about asking for your guidance and wisdom over my problems and goals in life, but today I want to ask you for your blessing over my current plans. Lord, if they are good, I pray that you would bless them and direct my footsteps along your perfect path. I also pray that if my plans are not good that you would redirect me and allow my heart and mind to be receptive to your perfect plans. Amen.
