His Word Never Fails
Scripture Reading
Joshua 24: 5-7, 14-15
5 “‘Then I sent Moses and Aaron, and I afflicted the Egyptians by what I did there, and I brought you out. 6 When I brought your people out of Egypt, you came to the sea, and the Egyptians pursued them with chariots and horsemen as far as the Red Sea. 7 But they cried to the Lord for help, and he put darkness between you and the Egyptians; he brought the sea over them and covered them. You saw with your own eyes what I did to the Egyptians. Then you lived in the wilderness for a long time.
14 “Now fear the Lord and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your ancestors worshiped beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord. 15 But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”
Devotional
I believe if you’re reading this today that God wants you to know that he loves you and his Word never fails. The passage from Joshua 24:5-7 is a reminder that God not only fulfilled his promise to deliver his people as prophesied, but he did it in a way only God could do. There was no doubt in any Israelite’s or Egyptian’s mind that it was God that brought the Israelites out of Egypt and that only the God of the Israelites could allow them safe passage across the Red Sea and yet destroy the Egyptian army behind them. These were not a series of coincidences that could be explained away. They were acts of God for his people and in fulfillment of the prophecy from Genesis 15:13-14 when God told Abram about the 400 years of affliction in a foreign land and the deliverance of his people. When God comes to fulfill his promise to his people, he is not only doing it because he loves them, but also to show his glory to both the believers and unbelievers. His Word is true and it absolutely never fails.
So what does this have to do with your life today? Maybe today you’re feeling like you’re in the middle of an affliction. Maybe you’re struggling at work or to find a job. Maybe your relationship is on the rocks. Maybe your health is failing or maybe you’re grieving a loss of a loved one. Maybe you just feel overwhelmed by how many things are out of your control. If any of that speaks to you, then my friend, I believe you’re standing on the shore of the Red Sea cornered by your enemy and it’s an opportunity for God to not only show you how much he loves you, but to show his glory and use your circumstance as a testimony for others. As long as you are choosing to serve the Lord or are seeking him, he is about to open up the Red Sea. If you believe it, claim it in Jesus’ name. Amen.
